Managing Concussion & Protecting Players

The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) held an awesome webinar, Concussion in Rugby Education, this week with Associate Professor Andrew Gardner and Rugby Australia's Dr Warren McDonald.

We'd highly recommend any player/parent or coach with an interest in the area have a listen to the recording which they've sent us here.

Would you like to better understand what is a concussion and how to recognise a concussion (during training sessions and general sports activity)? The HMRI recently held a special sports concussion session for parents and players of all contact sport codes to help identify concussion outside of a refer supervised game. There's a link to that here.

Below are the World Rugby and Rugby Australia official resources relevant to managing sports concussion:

World Rugby online modules on concussion, first aid and immediate care in rugby

Rugby Australia concussion policy and codes

We've had multiple (very good looking) Quins suffer from nasty concussions recently. While some will say there's nothing in life bigger than the Sydney Harlequins, the long term health and wellbeing of our players is essential.

We're indebted to the expertise of Anik Ray and Bruce Gordon for doing what they do on Quins match days, not to mention Sean Archer and others before them. If you're at all interested in understanding more, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Be well and Quin good.
